Dad says this shirt is tasteless!!! Despite the disturbing nature of the imagery, the piece can be interpreted as a commentary on the dangers of silencing voices of dissent and truth. By invoking the assassination of JFK, a figure synonymous with the ideals of democracy and freedom of speech, Common Cents is highlighting the consequences of suppressing those who challenge established power structures or speak out against injustice. The phrase "Don't Kill the Messenger" further underscores this interpretation, urging viewers to consider the importance of protecting individuals who convey uncomfortable truths or inconvenient realities, even in the face of hostility or danger.

Additionally, the juxtaposition of the violent imagery with the message of preserving messengers suggests a tension between the dark realities of history and the imperative to safeguard democratic principles and civil liberties. The image prompts viewers to reflect on the fragility of democracy and the ongoing struggle to uphold the values of transparency, accountability, and free expression.

However, it's important to note that the use of graphic violence, especially in the context of a historical tragedy, can be deeply unsettling and may evoke strong emotional reactions from viewers. As such, the effectiveness of the artwork in conveying its intended message may vary depending on individual interpretations and sensitivities.

In conclusion, "Don't Kill the Messenger" confronts viewers with a stark portrayal of violence while encouraging reflection on the importance of protecting those who challenge the status quo and advocate for truth and justice. It serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring relevance of JFK's legacy and the ongoing struggle to defend democratic ideals in the face of adversity.
